Video Tip of the Week (bonus)

General tips for shooting a ScreenCast video.

You know ScreenCast, right? Video that’s created of what’s on your computer display screen.

These tips are general in nature, but can help you create a video you’ll be happy with (and so will the viewers).

1. Do a trial recording. — About 10-20 second’s worth. Make sure you’re recording what you THINK you are… and that you can be clearly heard on the audio. — If you get these 2 things right, everything else will be a breeze.

2.Move the mouse (pointer) smoothly. —  When you’re pointing something out on screen, DO NOT move your pointer all over the place. — I see it quite a bit. The speaker is narrating, and his mouse is LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN. — Stop. Relax, take a breath… pace yourself.

3. (Related to tip #2)  Take your hand off the mouse when speaking on a topic. This will help remind you to move the mouse to Make a Particular Point… then move it to make your next point. And remember to relax.

As long as you’re speaking clearly, and do not have erratic movement on the display screen, your viewer should get the intended value from your ScreenCast.

As with most things in life… the more you practice, the better you’ll get.

Good luck.

Oh… one more thing. Have an outline of the points you want to make. — Not a script. — A simple outline… like I should have had when I wrote this post. 🙂
